Suns Stay Alive in Hunt for First, Beat Power 5-2 in 10 Innings

Hagerstown, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (42-25) took their first lead of the night in the tenth inning, 5-2, and used it to beat the West Virginia Power (21-47) at Appalachian Power Stadium on Friday night. Combined with a 5-2 win by the Charleston Riverdogs over the Greensboro Grasshoppers, the Suns are now 1.5 games out of first place with two games remaining in the first half schedule.

Brett Newsome went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs while Cole Leonida knocked in a pair of runs going 2-for-3. Caleb Ramsey's lone hit, an RBI single in the tenth inning, proved to be the game winner.

Suns starting pitcher Bobby Hansen, Jr. took a no-decision after pitching seven quality innings, allowing two runs on six hits. Chris Mckenzie (2-2) earned the victory pitching the eighth and ninth innings perfectly. Wilson Eusebio (2) earned his second save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Power starting pitcher Matt Benedict did not factor in the decision, pitching five scoreless innings on three hits, three walks and two strike outs. Reliever Zac Fuesser took the loss, giving up three runs on four hits in his tenth inning.

The Suns will play game three against West Virginia on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Hagerstown will face the Power's RHP Zack Von Rosenberg 0-1, 6.75). Hagerstown has yet to announce tomorrow's starting pitcher.
