Rome, GA - The Rome Braves were defeated by the Savannah Sand Gnats 5-4 Friday night in front of 3,173 fans.

The Sand Gnats scored first in the game in the second inning. A lead off walk to Travis Taijeron proved troublesome to the Braves after a single and a double play put Taijeron at third when Gilbert Gomez singled to center to plate Taijeron. Rome took control of the game in the third as Tony Mueller led off the inning with a walk and Kyle Kubitza (8) followed with a two run homer to give the Braves a 2-1 advantage. Savannah was not finished though and would score in three runs in the fourth inning on a bases clearing double by Gregory Pron and one in the eighth to make it a 5-2 game. The Braves responded with two runs in the bottom of the eighth as Kubitza doubled and scored on a two run homer off the bat of William Beckwith (6), but that was not enough to overtake the Sand Gnats who picked up the 5-4 victory.

Rafael Montero (6-3) would go six innings for the Sand Gnats, surrendering seven hits and two runs while striking out six en route to his sixth win of the season. The Braves' Jarrett Miller (3-1) left after three innings and gave up six hits and four runs and was charged with his first loss of the season.

The Braves take on the Savannah Sand Gnats again Saturday night at 7 PM. Saturday is Parrott Head Night at State Mutual Stadium and will include live music before and after the game. For ticket information, contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
