Hagerstown, MD (June 15, 2006) - The West Virginia Power entered Thursday night's game with a chance to share the first half title in the South Atlantic League's Northern Division with Lexington. The Suns spoiled the Power's chances with a 4-1 victory at Municipal Stadium and eliminated the Power.
The Suns took advantage of three Power errors in the first inning and took a 2-0 lead. Jonathan Sanchez ripped a single into right field to bring in Hector Pellot. Lorenzo Cain had trouble fielding the ball in right field and allowed Jonel Pacheco to score as well. The Power cut the lead in half scoring their only run of the game on Darren Ford's two out RBI single in the third inning. The Suns extended their lead on an Elvis Cruz RBI double in fourth inning and they scored their final run of the game on Drew Butera's Sac Fly RBI in the sixth.
Jeff Landing (3-9) held the Power to a run on five hits through five innings to earn the victory, Kevin Tomasiewicz (5) earned the save, and Dave Welch (2-4) obtained the loss despite allowing only one earned run on five hits through five innings. The Power are 37-29 after the loss and the Suns improved to 26-41 with the win.
The Power will finish the first half with a three game series against the Hickory Crawdads at Appalachian Power Park on Friday night. Hickory will start right hander Nic Suero (0-0, 13.50) and the Power will counter with right hander Ryan Marion (0-0, 5.86). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
