CHARLESTON, SC - Reegie Corona and Austin Jackson hit back-to-back third-inning doubles to right field to provide the only run as the Charleston RiverDogs battled back to earn a split in a doubleheader in South Atlantic League action Thursday night in front of 4,995 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

Greenville won the first game, 4-2, while the RiverDogs shutout the Drive, 1-0, in the nightcap. It was Charleston's seventh shutout victory on the season.

With the victory in the second game, Charleston takes the four-game series, 3-to-1. The RiverDogs have now won seven of their last eight contests and completed a 6-1 home stand to finish the first half with a home record of 25-10, the best in the S.A.L.

On the season, the RiverDogs improve to 36-31 while Greenville falls to 34-34.

In the second game, Corona and Jackson hit their back-to-back doubles in the third off of starter Tim Cox (2-4) to record two of Charleston's five hits in the contest. Greenville was limited to just six hits, and no player recorded more than one.

Charleston starter Abel Gomez pitched well in his four innings, as he allowed four hits while striking out five Drive batters.

David Seccombe, who pitched the final three frames and scattered two hits, earned the victory, his second win of the series, to improve his overall record to 4-3.

Cox, making his first start of the season after, went five innings and permitted five hits while striking out four.

In the first game, Greenville starter Clay Buchholz struck out seven RiverDogs in five complete innings while reliever Jason Blackey scattered three hits to pick up his first win as the Drive topped Charleston, 4-2.

With the score tied at 2 apiece, Greenville pushed two runs across in the decisive seventh inning to break the RiverDogs' six-game win streak. Tony Granadillo's fielder's choice RBI plated the go-ahead run and Logan Sorensen's run-scoring triple padded the visitor's lead.

Charleston's Eric Wordekemper (2-2) blew a save opportunity by allowing two inherited runners to score in the sixth, then gave up the winning tallies in the seventh to pick up the loss.

Sorensen's two hits led Greenville's eight-hit attack.

Charleston's Ben Jones continued his torrid hitting, as he doubled home a run in the first and the belted a solo shot in the sixth to account for the RiverDogs' two runs. Jones had two of the team's six hits, as did Reegie Corona and Irwil Rojas.

Wordekemper yielded two earned runs on four hits during his 1.2 innings pitched. The loss overshadowed another fine pitching performance for the RiverDogs' starters as Zach Kroenke went 5.1 innings and allowed two runs on four hits.

The RiverDogs begin a three-game road trip to Savannah prior to the All-Star break with a 7 p.m. start at historic Grayson Stadium. RiverDogs manager Bill Mosiello will send righty Bryan Villalona (5-3, 3.24 ERA) to the hill while the Sand Gnats counter with all-star lefty Gene Yost (3-3, 4.35 ERA).
