
Suns Rally Late to Cool off Red Hot Lookouts 5-4

CHATTANOOGA, TN - A two-run rally in the ninth inning helped the Jacksonville Suns (31-22, 67-56) snap the Chattanooga Lookouts' (25-26, 51-70) 11-game winning streak after coming away with a 5-4 victory on Thursday night from AT&T Field.

Chipper Smith did not factor into the decision allowing three runs (all earned) on five hits while walking two batters and striking out five in his five innings of work.
James Nygren did not allow a hit in his two scoreless innings, only issuing a walk while striking out one batter in his relief effort.
Reid Redman (W, 1-0) collected his first Double-A victory after giving up one unearned run on one hit in his one inning of work.
Matt Ramsey (SV, 11) earned his fifth save as a Sun and 11th overall after working a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth inning, with his one strikeout being the final out of the ballgame.
Juan Gonzalez (BS, 3; L, 3-8) blew the save and took the loss for Chattanooga by allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits in his inning of work, walking and striking out one batter each in a losing effort.
The game remained scoreless until Jacksonville took the lead in the third. Viosergy Rosa's RBI double scored Austin Nola to give the Suns a 1-0 lead after two and a half innings of play.
The Suns added to their lead with in a lone run in the top of the fifth inning. A RBI single by Viosergy Rosa doubled Jacksonville's advantage to 2-0 in the top of the fifth.
But Jacksonville's lead would evaporate in the next half inning, as Chattanooga scored three times on one swing to move out in front. Daniel Mayora ripped a bases-clearing two-out double down the left field line to give the Lookouts a 3-2 lead after five innings.
The Suns battled back to tie it up with a run in the top of the seventh. Viosergy Rosa came down to score on Joe Benson's sacrifice fly to level the game at 3-3 with six and a half innings complete.
Chattanooga jumped back in front by plating a single run in the eighth. Chris O'Brien's pinch-hit sacrifice fly scored Corey Seager to give the Lookouts a 4-3 lead after eight innings of play.
But Jacksonville did not go quietly, scoring twice in the top of the ninth inning. Joe Benson gave the Suns a 5-4 lead as two runs scored on Joe Benson's RBI single in the top half of the ninth inning.
With Thursday's 5-4 win, Jacksonville snapped Chattanooga's 11-game winning streak.
The Suns and Lookouts will be back at it on Friday with first pitch set for 7:15 p.m. ET. The Suns will start left-hander Justin Nicolino (11-3, 2.72) while the Lookouts will counter with right-hander Steve Smith (1-0, 3.50).
