Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. -- The Hagerstown Suns rallied for five runs off the Intimidators bullpen, defeating Kannapolis 6-1 on Friday at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The Intimidators lead in the Northern Division 2nd Half standings is back down to 1.0 game ahead of the Suns with two games left in this series and three weeks left in the regular season.

Suns pitchers A.J. Cole and Ryan Demmin combined to strike out 14 batters, and the Intimidators failed to score over the final eight innings. Demmin (4-2) earned the win, retiring 12 of the 14 batters he faced, allowing two hits and striking out seven.

The loss marred a strong start by Matt Heidenreich for Kannapolis. Heidenreich allowed one unearned run over seven innings while striking out eight batters, one shy of his season high.

Hagerstown broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the eight inning, as Jake Wilson surrendered hits to the first four batters, including an RBI- single to Blake Kelso and two-run hit to Adrian Sanchez, before being lifted for Chris Bassitt. Kevin Keyes knocked a two-run home run (14) off Bassitt to cap the rally. Wilson (3-2), who had not allowed a hit in his last seven relief appearances, took the loss.

Kannapolis scored in the first inning when Carlos Sanchez doubled to left field, and with two outs Dan Black dropped a base hit into shallow left field to bring home Sanchez.

Kannapolis and Hagerstown play game three of the four game set on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium which will be followed by a fireworks show. For ticket information, call the box office at (704) 932-3267 or visit www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
