Hickory Crawdads News Release
HICKORY, NC - The 1st-Half Northern Division Champion Hickory Crawdads and Lexington Legends split a doubleheader with the 'Dads claiming the nine-inning Game 1, 9-6, and the Legends taking the seven-inning Game 2, 4-2, before 2,882 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Friday evening. Game 1 originally started on Thursday night, but was suspended last night in the bottom of the first until Friday afternoon due to inclement weather.
Game 1:
After rain further delayed the resumption of Thursday's suspended game for one hour and twenty-eight minutes on Friday afternoon, the Crawdads (70-51, 30-23) jumped in front with four runs in the bottom of the second frame against RHP Murilo Gouvea (L, 1-2). The Crawdads worked the bases loaded with only one away, before SS Jonathan Roof brought all three runners home with a double to left-center field. Roof scored on the next pitch, which CF Jake Skole ripped to left-center field for an RBI single, putting the 'Dads in the 4-0 lead.
After 3B Christian Villanueva tacked another run to the Hickory lead with a solo home run in the third inning, Lexington managed to get on the board in the top of the fourth against RHP Andrew Doyle (W, 1-1). 3B Mike Kvasnicka worked a one-out walk, and quickly raced home on an RBI double from 1B Telvin Nash. A walk put runners at first and second, before SS Ben Orloff plated Nash with an RBI double of his own to cut the Crawdads lead to 5-2.
The Legends (51-71, 16-36) chipped away further with an unearned run against Doyle and RHP Ben Rowen in the top of the fifth, but Villanueva struck again in the bottom of the frame against RHP Brian Streilein. With one down, 2B Odubel Herrera and C Tomas Telis hit consecutive singles to put two men on. Villanueva then hammered his second homer of the game, and team-leading 16th of the season, over the left field wall, stretching the 'Dads lead to 8-3.
Lexington struck for another unearned run against Rowen in the top of the sixth, but Hickory had another answer in the bottom of the stanza. Facing Streilein, RF Josh Richmond led off the inning with a solo shot of his own, putting Hickory back in front by five runs, 9-4.
The Legends refused to go down quietly, plating a pair in the top of the ninth, but RHP Matt Thompson (S, 1) avoided any further trouble and closed the 9-6 win for the Crawdads in Game 1.

Game 2:
The Crawdads (70-52, 30-24) struck first in the seven-inning Game 2 of the doubleheader. With one away in the bottom of the second, RF Josh Richmond belted a solo home run against RHP Carlos Quevedo (W, 8-5), putting the 'Dads in front, 1-0. It marked the third straight game in which Richmond hit one out of the park.
Lexington (52-71, 17-36) overtook the Crawdads with a pair of long-balls of its own in the top of the third against RHP Joe Van Meter (L, 5-6). 2B Delino Deshields, Jr. started the stanza with a solo shot, before RF Domingo Santana followed with a two-run homer later in the inning, leap-frogging Lexington into the 3-1 advantage.
After the Legends added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a wild pitch from RHP Francisco Mendoza, the Crawdads threatened with a bottom of the seventh comeback attempt. SS Jurickson Profar sparked the charge with a one-out walk against RHP Jorge De Leon (S, 14). LF Jonthan Roof advanced Profar to second with a single to right field, and 2B Odubel Herrera brought him home with an RBI single to left, cutting the deficit to just two runs. After a ground out advanced the runners to second and third base, 1B Clark Murphy worked a two-out walk to load the bases and extend the game. However, De Leon induced a pop out to second base by C Kellin Deglan, escaping the jam and closing the 4-2 win for Lexington in seven innings.
