Suns One-Hit Shorebirds in 2-0 Win

Salisbury, MD. - Jarret Martins' fabulous start for Delmarva was spoiled as three Hagerstown pitchers combined on a one-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Shorebirds on Saturday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in front of 8,104 fans. A.J. Cole pitched five shutout innings for Hagerstown, allowing just one hit and one walk. Hagerstown starting pitching tossed 17 scoreless innings over the final three games of the series.

Cole matched his career high with nine strikeouts, which he previously set in an earlier outing against Delmarva this season.

Hagerstown scored first in all four games of the series. The Suns scored in the first inning as the second batter of the game, Blake Kelso, tripled to right-center field passed a diving Mikey Planeta. Adrian Sanchez drove Kelso in on an RBI groundout to Garabez Rosa.

Jarret Martin was lights out after the first inning. Martin went seven strong, allowing just one run on three hits with six strikeouts. He completed the outing by retiring the final 15 batters he faced.

Orioles 2011 fourth round draft pick Kyle Simon came on in relief of Martin in the eighth inning. Simon tossed two innings giving up one run on two hits, while walking two batters.

The Shorebirds lone hit came in the fifth inning. Jacob Julius hit a soft line drive single into center field.

Hagerstown reliever Wilson Eusebio did not allow a hit over three scoreless innings. Dean Weaver entered in the ninth inning to picked up his second save of the season.

The Shorebirds start an eight-game road trip on Sunday in Lakewood, New Jersey against the BlueClaws. The 'Birds will send Tim Berry to the hill, who goes in search of his fourth win of the season.
