Power lose 8-1 to the Charleston RiverDogs

HIGHLIGHTS: The West Virginia Power lost 8-1 to the Charleston RiverDogs on Saturday night at Appalachian Power Park. The RiverDogs limited the Power to one run for the second straight game while claiming a series win with the victory.

Charleston tallied three runs in the top of the first inning against West Virginia starter Jameson Taillon. With two down, four straight batters reached, including a double by Ramon Flores that plated two runs and a two-base hit by Kyle Higashioka that brought in the third run. The Power committed two errors in the inning, but all three runs were earned.

Taillon settled in over the next four innings, including the third when he struck out the side.

In the bottom of the fourth, West Virginia plated a run on one hit and two errors. Andy Vasquez led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a single, and scored on a throwing error by shortstop Jose Toussen.

The RiverDogs added a run in the fifth inning against Colton Cain and tallied four in the eighth off Justin Ennis to close out the scoring at 8-1.

Taillon (2-3) took the loss after surrendering the three first inning runs. The right-hander pitched four innings, amassing four strikeouts while allowing five hits and walking one. Nathan Forer (2-5) earned the win with six innings of three hit ball.

The Power committed four errors in the game as the dropped their second straight and third of the series against the RiverDogs. Charleston also claimed the season set with the win, taking eight of fifteen games against West Virginia in 2011.

The Power open a four-game road trip at Kannapolis on Sunday. West Virginia returns home one Thursday, August 18, to open a four game series against Delmarva.
