HICKORY, NC - The 1st-Half Northern Division Champion Hickory Crawdads fell to the Kannapolis Intimidators, 7-3, before 2,222 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Saturday night.

The Intimidators (66-49, 29-18) started off red hot, plating seven runs in the first two innings against RHP Luke Jackson (L, 4-4). With one away in the top of the first, Kannapolis strung six straight hits together, including RBI singles by 1B Dan Black and 3B Rangel Ravelo, an RBI double from SS Marcus Semien and a two-run homer by CF Trayce Thompson, accounting for the 5-0 lead after one. Semien struck again with a two-run home run in the second, stretching the advantage to 7-0.

RHP Andrew Doyle took over on the mound to start the third inning, and kept the Intimidators from adding to their lead through his scoreless three-inning relief outing.

The Crawdads (66-50, 26-22) then got on the board and began chipping away in the bottom of the fifth. CF Jake Skole worked a walk to start the inning against RHP Phil Negus (W, 3-0). LF Alejandro Selen grounded one right back to the mound, but Negus misfired past second, enabling Skole and Selen to both reach safely on the fielder's choice and throwing error. One out later, 1B Jhonny Gomez placed an RBI single to left field, bringing in Skole to cut the deficit to 7-1.

After RHP Roman Mendez dealt a pair of scoreless relief innings, the Crawdads continued the comeback in the bottom of the seventh against RHP Terrence Marin. The 'Dads welcomed Marin to the mound with four straight singles. RF Josh Richmond and CF Jake Skole started the frame with the first two base hits, before LF Alejandro Selen and C Kellin Deglan followed with consecutive RBI singles to bring Hickory within four runs of tying it, 7-3.

RHP Matt Thompson kept the Intimidators at seven tallies with two scoreless relief innings as well, but the Kannapolis bullpen matched him late in the game. After RHP Nick McCully logged his second scoreless inning in the eighth, RHP Jake Wilson tossed a scoreless ninth to close the 7-3 win for the Intimidators.
