Lakewood Swept by Greensboro

GREENSBORO, NC - The Lakewood BlueClaws (24-24) are very glad to be done playing at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro, NC in 2011. The Greensboro Grasshoppers (24-24) completed a 4 game sweep of the BlueClaws with a 4-2 win on Saturday night. The loss was not only the 4th in a row for Lakewood, but the 7th in a row in Greensboro this season. The BlueClaws have now been swept 3 times this season.

Both starters factored in the decision with Austin Wright (1-1) getting his first loss with Lakewood, and Greg Nappo (4-0) picking up the win to continue his great start to his professional career. Wright allowed 4 runs/3 earned while striking out 8 in 6 innings. Nappo gave up 2 runs to Lakewood after the first 2 batters of the game, but nothing after that over 5 innings.

The top of BlueClaws batting order got the job done yet again with leadoff hitter Bill Rice going 2-3 with a walk, and Carlos Alonso 3-4 including his first Home Run as a BlueClaw. Rice and Alonso scored both of Lakewood's runs and Alonso drove both of them in. Cameron Rupp was 2-4 out of the 7 spot, and nobyd else had more than 1 hit.

Lakewood will look to snap their 4 game losing streak on Sunday as they return to FirstEnergy Park to welcome in the Delmarva Shorebirds for the first game of a 4 game series and an 8 game homestand. RHP Garett Claypool will be called upon to start for Lakewood. He is 3-7 with a 3.85 ERA this season. Delmarva will send out LHP Tim Berry who is 3-7 with a 5.56 ERA. First Pitch on Sunday is scheduled for 5:05 pm.
