CHARLESTON, W. Va. -

Four RiverDogs had multi-hit games, and Nathan Forer recorded his first career win as a starter in an 8-1 triumph over West Virginia in South Atlantic League action at Appalachian Power Park Saturday evening.

With the victory, Charleston has won five of its last seven in improving to 21-27, 47-71 overall, while West Virginia drops to 20-28, 55-61 overall.

Charleston got out of the gate quickly with three runs in the first against Power starter Jameson Taillon. Kevin Mahoney and Kelvin De Leon blooped consecutive singles with two outs, while Ramon Flores brought Mahoney in with a RBI double off the right-field wall, and De Leon scored on the errant relay throw. Kyle Higashioka then lined a RBI double off the first-base chalk to plate Flores and finish the 3-0 start.

Taillon (2-3), the Pirates No. 1 overall prospect, gave up five hits total in his 4.0 innings, but just one after the first inning, while walking one and fanning four.

West Virginia cut the score to 3-1 on a RBI groundout by Dan Grovatt.

Flores was it again in the fifth off reliever Colton Cain, drilling another RBI double to the left-centerfield alley scoring Jose Toussen all the way from first, upping the advantage to 4-1.

Forer (2-5) permitted just three West Virginia singles over a career-high 6.0 innings, while registering one walk and one strikeout in earning his first victory since April 15.

The first four batters of the eighth inning reached for the Dogs and all of them scored to increase the lead to 8-1. Garrison Lassiter contributed a RBI single; Toussen roped a two-run double with the sacks full, and Mahoney drove home the final run of the inning courtesy of a sacrifice fly.

In the ninth inning, West Virginia brought in utility infielder Kevin Mort to pitch, and he promptly recorded a 1-2-3 inning.

Higashioka led Charleston's 12-hit arsenal with a 3-for-4 night, while Flores hit a pair of RBI doubles, and De Leon and Taylor Grote had two hits apiece.

Charleston comes back to Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park Sunday for a 5:05 p.m. start in the first of a four-game set against the Hickory Crawdads, a Texas Rangers affiliate. RiverDogs right-hander Manny Barreda (4-2, 4.21 ERA) makes his second start of the year against Crawdads right-hander Joe Van Meter (5-4, 4.08 ERA).
