(Eastlake, OH)--The Hagerstown Suns made an early lead stand up Monday night, riding a strong pitching performance from starter Bobby Parnell to a 5-2 win over the Lake County Captains at Classic Park.
The Suns (8-16) snapped a nine-game losing streak. Jonel Pacheco had a pair of RBI for the Suns, including a suicide squeeze bunt in the second inning to give the Suns a 4-0 lead.
Hagerstown scored three times in the first inning off Captains starter Jim Deters (7-7). Nick Evans had an RBI single. Drew Butera added a sacrifice fly, and Matt Anderson had an RBI double. Eight men came to the palte in the opening inning against Deters.
Parnell worked five innings and allowed only four hits and one unearned run, which came in the second inning when Chris Gimenez singled and scored when Matt Fornasiere's single to center was misplayed for an error.
Parnell (4-6) tied his season-high with seven strikeouts. He won his second straight decision.
Tomasiewicz came on to pitch the final two innings for his ninth save in 10 chances. Three of his saves have come against the Captains.
The Captains (14-10) dropped to 2 1/2 games behind the Lakewood BlueClaws, who defeated Greensboro 4-2.
The finale of the series and eight-game homestand is Tuesday night. Frank Herrmann will start for the Captains against Hagerstown's Deolis Guerra in the 7:05 P.M. contest.
