Sundstrom Earns First NHL Recall

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (March 13, 2014) - The New York Islanders announced today that Johan Sundstrom has been recalled under emergency conditions from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League.

Sundstrom, 21, has 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) in 38 games this season with the Sound Tigers. The Gothenburg, Sweden, native scored 32 points (11 goals, 21 assists) in 59 games last year during his first season in North America.

The Islanders selected Sundstrom in the second round (50th overall) of the 2011 National Hockey League Draft. Prior to joining the Sound Tigers, Sundstrom played two professional seasons with Frolunda of the Swedish Hockey League.

On the international stage, Sundstrom has represented Sweden at the 2011 and 2012 World Junior Championships, winning gold in 2012.
