Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Tacoma, WA - The homestanding Tacoma Rainiers (51-37) were cooled off a bit on Sunday afternoon by the Las Vegas Aviators (44-44), as a five-game Rainiers win streak was snapped with a 14-0 setback. Aviators centerfielder Skye Bolt (5-for-5) drove in six runs and reached base in all six of his plate appearances.

Seattle Mariners right-hander Justus Sheffield started for Tacoma, on rehab assignment. After a scoreless first inning however, the Aviators exploded for six runs in the second, four of which were charged to Sheffield who worked 1.1 IP. The bulk of the damage was done on a Bolt grand slam to right field off Zack Weiss, his seventh Triple-A homer this season. Bolt made it 7-0 in the fourth, ripping a double for his fifth run driven in of the afternoon.

Buddy Reed blasted his first career Triple-A homer off the right-center scoreboard in the fifth inning, a two-run shot extending the Las Vegas lead to 9-0. It was an even 10 runs after a Chad Pinder RBI double off the wall in center later in the inning; Pinder was on the first day of an MLB rehab assignment. Bolt made it 11-0 with his third extra-base hit of the day, an RBI double as well, to left field (sixth RBI).

Aviators starter Daulton Jefferies worked six shutout innings for a quality start. The right-hander struck out five and did not walk a batter, allowing just four hits. It was only the third time Tacoma has been shutout this season.

Carlos Perez ripped a three-run homer to conclude the day's scoring, his 18th, as Rainiers infielder Jantzen Witte came off the bench to pitch and mop up the ninth inning.

The Rainiers will next be in action on Monday, an 11:35 a.m. PT first pitch at Cheney Stadium. RHP Logan Verrett, who has had five consecutive winning decisions, will start for Tacoma. RHP Brian Howard is scheduled to throw for Las Vegas.
