Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA â A kickoff party for kids who sign up for the Omaha Public Library's Summer Reading Club will be held at Rosenblatt Stadium on Tuesday, June 1 from 4:30-6:30 p.m., with live music and dancing, magic, clowns, games, a climbing wall and more.
The kickoff party is the last chance for kids and teens to sign up for the Summer Reading Club. Participants will get a free ticket to the Omaha Royals game vs. the Oklahoma RedHawks that evening at 7:05 p.m. Parents may purchase their tickets for $6.00 each.
The Summer Reading Club's "Discover New Trails" theme commemorates Lewis & Clark's Voyage of Discovery and runs June 1 through July 31. Children, toddlers through 6th grade, will win prizes by reading library books (or having someone read to them). Teens, 7th through 12th grade, will get a free water bottle and a chance to win prizes for the library books they read. The top award is a free ticket to the Royals game on Sunday, August 15, at 1:35 p.m. vs. the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.
Last year, over 16,000 kids in the Omaha metro area signed up for the Summer Reading Club. This year, with sponsorship help from the State Treasurer's Office and The College Savings Plan of Nebraska, the program is expanding statewide and more than 20,000 kids are expected to participate.
"Reading is such an important step in every child's education and their knowledge of the world," commented Matt Brown, Royals Vice President/Assistant General Manager. "This is one way the Omaha Royals can help our libraries, our communities and our kids," Brown said.
"We're thrilled to partner with the Royals to promote two of America's pastimes â baseball and reading," said Omaha Public Library Director Rivkah Sass. "We appreciate the baseball team recognizing the power of reading," she added.
