Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Tucson Baseball, LLC, owners of the first place Tucson Sidewinders, announced today that it will expand ownership to include new minority owners including General Manager, Rick Parr and a local investment group.
Tucson Baseball, LLC owns and operates the Tucson Sidewinders baseball franchise, the Triple A Affiliate for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Established in 1999, Tucson Baseball acquired the franchise from Professional Sports, Inc. who was in the process of selling the team and moving it to Portland, Oregon. It was the mission of Tucson Baseball to retain professional baseball in our Community and develop it as a family oriented entertainment venue. The organization has been exclusively held by Jay S. Zucker, a native Tucsonan, and his wife Melinda until this point.
"When we acquired the franchise we experienced several challenges that required us to invest a substantial amount of monies and efforts," said Zucker. "We have since developed the opportunities and Tucson has responded. Now we are taking the organization to a higher level. We expect our new ownership structure will help that process"
"To have the opportunity to acquire an equity position in the Tucson Sidewinders is simply outstanding," said General Manager Rick Parr. "Tucson is a great community for Triple-A Baseball and I look forward to working with Jay and our front office staff on taking the Sidewinders to the next level for affordable family entertainment."
The Tucson Sidewinders currently lead the Pacific Coast League's Southern Division with a 26-19 record, and have held first place 45 out of 47 days this season. Tucson is tied with Edmonton for the most home wins (15) in the PCL.
Several Sidewinders find themselves among the PCL leader boards. 2B Andy Green is 1st in 2B (20), T1st in extra base hits (29), T4th in R (35), 6th in OBP (.433), and T7th in H (56). SS Jerry Gil and the recently recalled 2B Scott Hairston rank T10th in 3B (3). RHP Scott Service is T3rd in W (5), T4th in SV (8), and T6th in G (21). LHP Shane Nance ranks T10th in G (20).
The Sidewinders are currently wrapping up an eight game road trip to
Colorado Springs and Albuquerque, and will return home to Tucson Electric
Park to host the Portland Beavers on Friday, May 28 at 6:30 p.m. For more
