PAPILLION, Neb. -- Right-hander Grant Gavin, left-hander Gabe Speier, right-hander Jake Newberry, and right-hander Tyler Zuber combined for 5.1 innings of one-run ball in relief to help the Omaha Storm Chasers to a one-run win, 3-2, over the Toledo Mud Hens on Friday at Werner Park.

Omaha (36-21) took an early lead with four consecutive singles and a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning against Toledo (32-25) right-hander Drew Hutchison (Loss, 6-3). Shortstop Lucius Fox singled, moved to second on a single by second basemen Erick Mejia, moved to third on single by designated hitter Edward Olivares, and scored on an RBI single by first baseman Ryan McBroom. Olivares later scored on a sacrifice fly by centerfielder Kyle Isbel.

McBroom went 3-for-3 with a walk, reaching base all four times he came to the plate.

Right-hander Jackson Kowar struck out four across 3.2 innings, allowing one run on five hits. The lone run he allowed came in the second, when Victor Reyes tripled to lead off the inning and scored on a single by Yariel Gonzalez.

Right-hander Grant Gavin (Win, 3-0) entered to finish the fourth inning and then tossed two more scoreless innings. He lowered his ERA to 3.11 in 37.2 innings this season.

Omaha's final run came in the sixth, when Olivares drilled the first pitch over the left-center field wall for a solo home run. It was his ninth home run of the season and his first at Werner Park since Opening Day on May 4 vs. St. Paul.

Speier allowed a run on three straight two-out singles, but struck out Kody Clemens to strand the potential tying run on base. Newberry faced the minimum in a scoreless eighth inning and Zuber struck out two in a scoreless ninth to close out the win.

The Storm Chasers continue their six-game series against the Toledo Mud Hens (DET) on Saturday, when right-hander Eddie Butler (3-1, 4.45) faces right-hander Pedro Payano (1-2, 5.96).. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. with the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show at 6:45 p.m. on 1180 The Zone.

The homestand, which finishes on Sunday, July 11, features a special FNBO Summer Fireworks Series show on Saturday, July 10.
