
Streaks End As Sound Tigers Open Busiest Stretch In Team History

The Sound Tigers saw their five-game winning streak and four-game, home-ice winning streak end as they opened an eight-game-in-ten-day stretch with three games in three days. They lost 3-2 on the road to the Providence Bruins Friday, beat the Springfield Falcons 2-1 on the road Saturday and lost 3-2 in overtime at home to the expansion San Antonio Rampage Sunday. The Sound Tigers finished the week in second place in the East Division and fifth place in the Eastern Conference with 64 points and a 26-18-9-3 record including 15-6-3-2 at home and 11-12-6-1 on the road.
FRI FEB 14th at PRO, 3-2 L: MATTIAS WEINHANDL and RAFFI TORRES scored, BRANDON SMITH had two assists, and STEVE VALIQUETTE made 36 saves for the Sound Tigers who were 1 for 3 on the power play while Providence was 2 for 9 and had a 39-23 shots on goal advantage.
SAT FEB 15th at SPR, 2-1 W: The Sound Tigers never trailed as BRANDON SMITH and MIKE SOUZA scored, and SCOTT STIRLING made 34 saves. The Sound Tigers were 1 for 4 on the power play, 2 for 2 on the penalty kill and won despite being outshot 35-30.
SUN FEB 16th vs. SAN, 3-2 OTL: MATTIAS WEINHANDL and BLAINE DOWN scored first-period goals, and STEVE VALIQUETTE made 29 saves for the Sound Tigers. However, MIKE GREEN and former Sound Tiger JURAJ KOLNIK scored third-period goals, and ERIC BEAUDOIN tallied in overtime for San Antonio. The Sound Tigers were 0 for 5 on the power play and lost despite a 38-32 shots on goal advantage. The Rampage were 1 for 5 on the advantage.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK - RW MATTIAS WEINHANDL
Reassigned by the Islanders Friday, Weindhandl met the team in Providence and scored in that night's game. He added an assist Saturday and another goal Sunday. Weinhandl is on a five-game scoring streak and has seven goals, ten assists and 17 points in 17 games with the Sound Tigers this season. He also has three goals, 11 assists and 14 points in 29 games with the Islanders and played in last month's YoungStars game during NHL All-Star Weekend in Florida.
THIS WEEK - Five Games in Six Days Await Sound Tigers
The Sound Tigers will complete the eight-game-in-ten day stretch with five games in six days this week. They will host San Antonio Tuesday and the Albany River Rats Wednesday before visiting the Hartford Wolf Pack Friday, Springfield Saturday and the Binghamton Senators Sunday.
TUE FEB 18th vs. SAN, 7:05 p.m.: This will be second meeting at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard in three days and the fourth and final in this year's season series. The Sound Tigers are 0-2-0-1 versus expansion San Antonio who enters this week in third place in the West Division and fifth place in the Western Conference with 62 points and a 26-21-8-2 record including 11-16-4-2 on the road. The Rampage have won three games in a row and will finish a 12-game road trip and a stretch in which they play 15 of 16 games on the road Tuesday against the Sound Tigers.
WED FEB 19th vs. ALB, 7:05 p.m.: This will be the fourth of eight meetings, the first at Harbor Yard, this regular season. The Sound Tigers are 2-0-1 this season and 8-1-2 all-time versus Albany who enters this week in fifth place in the East Division and 12th place in the Eastern Conference with 47 points and a 17-26-7-6 record including 7-14-4-2 on the road. The River Rats were scheduled to host Springfield Monday afternoon.
FRI FEB 21st at HFD, 7:05 p.m.: This will be the sixth of ten meetings, the second in Hartford, this regular season. The Sound Tigers are 3-2 this season and 9-6 all-time versus the Wolf Pack who enter this week in third place in the East Division and seventh place in the Eastern Conference with 59 points and a 24-21-7-4 record including 12-9-3-2 at home. Hartford is not scheduled to play again until Friday.
SAT FEB 22nd at SPR, 7:35 p.m.: This will be the fifth of eight meetings, the third in Springfield, this regular season. The Sound Tigers are 4-0 this season and 8-3-1 all-time versus the Falcons who enter this week in fourth place in the East Division and tenth place in the Eastern Conference with 53 points and a 24-27-5-0 record including 17-10-2-0 at home. Springfield was scheduled to visit Albany Monday afternoon and will host the Worcester IceCats Friday.
SUN FEB 23rd at BNG, 5:05 p.m.: This will be the fourth of six meetings, the third and final in Binghamton, this regular season. The Sound Tigers are 1-1-0-1 against the expansion Senators who enter this week in first place in the East Division and seeded third in the Eastern Conference, despite the fourth-best record, with 66 points and a 29-18-7-1 record including 18-8-3-1 at home. Binghamton enters this week on a two-game winning streak and was scheduled to visit the Hamilton Bulldogs Tuesday and the Syracuse Crunch Saturday.

The Sound Tigers will honor unused birthday party reservations from the Friday, February 7th game versus Hartford at all home games during the month of February. They will also honor unused tickets from the Friday, February 7th home game at all Friday home games during the remainder of the regular season. The Sound Tigers raised $2,483 for Children's Connection of Norwalk during last Tuesday's "Celebrity Bartenders II" at Amberjacks in South Norwalk. The Port Jefferson Ferry is offering special, all-inclusive packages featuring discounted, round-trip ferry fare and tickets to select Sound Tigers' games. "The Sound Tigers Report" is also broadcast Tuesdays at 7 p.m. on "The ZONE" but will not air this week with the Sound Tigers hosting San Antonio at Harbor Yard.
