Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Nashville Predators Executive Vice President/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has acquired forward Jon Sim from the Dallas Stars organization in exchange for Admirals' defenseman Bubba Berenzweig and a conditional 2004 NHL draft pick. Berenzweig has been reassigned to the Utah Grizzlies and is expected to play against the Admirals tomorrow night at the Bradley Center. Sim will report to Nashville.
Berenzweig, a fan favorite since his first season with the Admirals in 1999-2000, was named team captain this season and had scored 17 points (6g-11a) in 48 games. Over the past four seasons, the former University of Michigan team captain scored 87 points (22g-65a) in 212 games with Milwaukee. He also saw action in 37 games with Nashville and scored 10 points (3g-7a).
The Arlington Heights, Illinois native was Milwaukee's first AHL All-Star last season when he was named to the PlanetUSA Team. He played in the 2000-2001 International Hockey League All-Star Game as a starter and was named to the IHL's post season All-Star Second Team. In his rookie season with the Admirals, Berenzweig was named the IHL's McKenzie Award winner as the league's top U.S.-Born Rookie in 1999-2000.
He will be reunited with former Admirals' teammate David Gosselin who has played with the Grizzlies since being traded to the Dallas organization in a deal that included current Admiral forward Cameron Mann. Sim, the American Hockey League All-Star Classic's Most Valuable Player, scored 47 points (16g-31a) in 42 games for the Stars' AHL affiliate, the Utah Grizzlies. He also saw action in four games with the Stars. The Stars' 1996 third round draft pick has scored 15 NHL points (9g-6a) in 77 games with Dallas.
The Admirals open a three-game homestand tomorrow night against the Grizzlies. The homestand concludes with games Friday and Saturday nights against the Hamilton Bulldogs at the Bradley Center. Saturday night is Country Music Night. Country music artist Phil Vassar will perform in a pre-game concert at 6:30 with the Admirals' game to follow at 8:12 Saturday night.
