Sports Carnival '03 raises over $30,000

February 17, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose announced that the Yearling Foundation raised over $30,000 during the Sports Carnival '03. This sets a new record amount for the six-year history of the event, shattering the record-amount established last year at over $26,000.

The Winnipeg Arena was jam-packed with over 4,000 fans young and old playing interactive games, bidding on assorted hockey items (including the highest bid of a signed Johan Hedberg goalie pads for $505), meeting and greeting the present Manitoba Moose players.

The strong turnout assisted in raising the record amount for the Manitoba Moose Yearling Foundation. Executive Director of the Yearling Foundation Michelle Hoas stated, "The Foundation wishes to thank all who attended the Sports Carnival this year. The Moose organization extends tremendous gratitude to everyone who assisted in the organization of this year's Sports Carnival and contributing to a record-breaking year!"

During the Manitoba Moose Sports Carnival '03, the players helped by signing autographs and being involved in interactive booths throughout the event. The players competed against each other at two specific booths: Jaroslav Obsut was the winner of the hardest slap shot with a recorded shot of 94 m.p.h. and Brandon Reid defeated Pat Kavanagh in the Velcro Olympics (obstacle course) competition.

The Yearling Foundation is well on their way to their goal of raising $100,000 for registered children's charities throughout Manitoba and have planned another event in March. The Manitoba Moose Yearling Foundation Dinner in support of the Manitoba Special Olympics will take place on Wednesday, March 26 at the Delta Winnipeg. Tickets are now available by calling the Special Olympics office.
