SPRINGFIELD, MA ... The American Hockey League announced today that San Antonio Rampage center Jeff Toms has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending February 16, 2003. In two contests, Toms registered five goals (including two game-winners), one assist and a plus-5 rating, earning his fourth recall of the season to the parent Florida Panthers.

On Wednesday night, Toms sparked the Rampage's rally from a 3-0 deficit, scoring the team's first goal of the game, setting up the equalizer and netting the winner in overtime of San Antonio's 4-3 road victory over the South Division-leading Norfolk Admirals. Then on Saturday, Toms recorded his first hat trick of the season as the Rampage posted a 6-2 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack. Toms, who has one assist in three NHL games this season, was recalled again by Florida on Sunday.

In recognition of his achievement, Toms will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the San Antonio Jr. Rampage in Toms's name.

A veteran of 231 career NHL games, Toms is currently leading the Rampage in scoring with 19 goals and 41 points in 45 contests this season. His seven power play goals and five game-winning tallies also rank first on the club.
