Sacramento River Cats News Release

West Sacramento, Calif. - Righty Dan Straily struck out eight in seven scoreless innings in his Triple-A debut, helping the River Cats retake first place in the division with a 6-0 shutout of the Fresno Grizzlies on Thursday night at Raley Field.

The River Cats did most of their damage in the first inning when, with the bases loaded, Brandon Hicks launched a grand slam onto the clubhouse roof over the left field wall. Stephen Parker added a two-run shot in the fourth, providing the River Cats with plenty of offense as they cruised to a 6-0 victory.

Hicks, who finished 2-for-3 with two runs and four RBIs, has now homered in four-straight games and has six long-balls and 18 RBIs in his last seven contests, both tops in the entire Pacific Coast League. Parker finished 1-for-4 with a run and two RBIs. Five other River Cats recorded one hit apiece.

Straily, who entered the game second in minor league baseball with 108 strikeouts, now leads all minor leaguers with 116 punch-outs. He walked three and allowed three hits, striking out eight in seven shutout innings, earning the first Triple-A win of his career.

Pedro Figueroa pitched one shutout inning in his return to Sacramento after a one-game stint with Oakland. He got out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the bottom of the eighth, recording a strikeout and a fielder's choice to preserve the shutout. Righty Rich Thompson came on in the ninth to complete the River Cats' third shutout of the season.

The final game of the series begins at 7:05 p.m. on a Toyota Family Value Friday at Raley Field. RHP Bruce Billings (4-1, 3.00 ERA) will oppose Fresno RHP Yusmeiro Petit (3-2, 3.06 ERA) on a night where the first 2,500 fans through the gates will receive a Bobblenose of Johnny Doskow, the voice of the River Cats for the last 12 seasons.
