Reno Aces News Release
NEW YORK-Arizona Diamondbacks top prospect and Reno Aces right-hander Trevor Bauer has been selected to participate in the 2012 Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game in Kansas City, Major League Baseball announced today.
Bauer-rated by Baseball America and MLB.com as Arizona's No. 1 prospect-will represent the U.S. squad in the annual exhibition, which features the game's premier up-and-coming stars. This year's contest will be held on Sunday, July 8 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City-site of the 2012 Major League All-Star Game.
The 21-year-old pitcher becomes the third member of the Aces franchise to participate in the Futures Game. In 2010, shortstop Pedro Ciriaco played for the World Team at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. Last season, Aces manager Brett Butler was selected as a coach for the U.S. Team at Chase Field in Phoenix.
Since being selected with the third-overall pick in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of UCLA, Bauer has become one of the most highly-touted young players in professional baseball. He began the 2012 season at Double-A Mobile, carrying a 7-1 record and a 1.68 ERA. Since a May promotion to Reno, he has gone 4-0 with a 2.79 ERA in his first seven-career Triple-A outings. A Golden Spikes Award Winner and National Player of the Year honoree, Bauer leads all Minor League pitchers with 111 strikeouts and is tied for the Minor League lead with 11 victories.
Hall of Fame third baseman George Brett will serve as manager of the U.S. squad in the 14th-annual Futures Game. First pitch for the exhibition is set for 2 p.m. PT on July 8, and the action can be viewed live on ESPN2, ESPN2 HD and MLB.com.
After an eight-game road swing through Tacoma and Salt Lake, Bauer and the Aces return home on Wednesday, June 27. Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
