Storm Sweeps Stampede in 5-4 Victory

KEARNEY, NE. - The Tri-City Storm posted a two-game weekend sweep of the Sioux Falls Stampede in a 5-4 victory at the Viaero Center on Saturday. Arsenii Sergeev became the first goaltender in organizational history to record 27 wins in a single season. Ilya Nikolaev, Kieran Cebrian, Andrew Strathmann, Mitchell Miller, and Cole O'Hara netted goals in the game for the Storm. Tri-City completes play in a three-game weekend tomorrow afternoon in a road matchup against the Lincoln Stars. Puck drop for the rivalry matchup is scheduled for 3:05pm CT.

Sammy Harris gave Sioux Falls its first lead of the matchup just 64 seconds into Saturday's 1st period. The goal was his 13th of the season. Ilya Nikolaev answered with a powerplay goal for the Storm at 7:16 of the period to tie the game at 1-1. Nikolaev's goal was his 21st of the year and was assisted by Jeremy Wilmer and Matt Basgall. Kieran Cebrian put the Storm ahead by one goal seconds later at 7:55 of the 1st period. Cebrian's goal was his eighth of the season and was assisted by Aiden Dubinsky and Josh Eernisse. The Stampede responded seconds later to tie the game at 2-2. Ryan Healey notched his fourth goal of the year on the scoring play. The goal was netted at 8:12 of the period, and was assisted by Max Rud and Daniel Russell. Tri-City outshot Sioux Falls 13-8 in the 1st period. The 2nd period began with the two Western Conference opponents tied.

Max Rud gave Sioux Falls its second lead of the contest at 3:45 of the 2nd period. The goal was notched on the powerplay and was assisted by Ryan Healey. Tri-City responded with three unanswered goals to capture a two-goal lead in the game. Andrew Strathmann brought the score to a 3-3 tie 30 seconds following Rud's fourth goal of the season. Strathmann's goal was his fourth of the year, and was assisted by Gavin Brindley and Jeremy Wilmer. Mitchell Miller scored his 33rd goal of the year at 13:59 of the period to give the Storm a 4-3 lead. Miller's goal was assisted by Cole O'Hara and Matt Basgall. Cole O'Hara scored the final goal of the period with less than two minutes to play to give Tri-City a 5-3 lead. O'Hara's goal was scored on the powerplay and was his 23rd of the season. Gavin Brindley and Graham Gamache each recorded an assist on the play. Tri-City led by two goals after outshooting Sioux Falls 12-11 in the 2nd period.

The Stampede outshot the Storm 12-4 in Saturday's 3rd period and scored the only goal of the period with under two minutes to play. Daniel Russell netted his 16th goal of the season with goaltender Noah Grannan on the bench for an extra attacker. Sioux Falls outshot Tri-City 31-29 in the game but couldn't find the equalizer in the final seconds. The Storm improved to 7-1-0-0 in head-to-head matchups this season against the Stampede in the 5-4 win.

Arsenii Sergeev improved to 27-6-1-0 on the season in goal for Tri-City in the victory. Sergeev eclipsed Peter Mannino (2003-2004), and Ian Keserich (2006-07) as the only player in organizational history to notch 27 wins in a single season. Sergeev is one shutout away from tying the Storm's single-season record of seven held by Aaron Rock (2005-06), and Filip Larsson (2017-18). Noah Grannan recorded the loss in net for Sioux Falls after stopping 27 of Tri-City's 31 shots on goal in the contest.

Tri-City improved to 41-10-2-0 on the season in the win. Saturday's game was played in front of a crowd of 2,820 at the Viaero Center. The Storm will return home for three consecutive games next weekend following the team's road contest against the Lincoln Stars tomorrow afternoon. Sioux City will be the opponent for Tri-City in all three home games next weekend.
