Lancers Split Weekend with Fargo After Blowout Loss

FARGO, ND. - The Lancers faced off against the Fargo Force for the second time this weekend tonight (4/2), after coming out with a bit of an unexpected win on night one.

Last night (4/1) the Lancers picked a 1-0 victory but lost severely in the shot count, 55-18. 55 saves from Omaha goaltender Kevin Pasche made the victory possible, as Michael Cameron scored 32 seconds into the third period of play on what was the Lancers' only third period shot. Giving Cameron his 17th goal of the season, snapping a five-game losing streak for Omaha, and giving Pasche his first United States Hockey League shutout.

Although they were outplayed, the Lancers were still looking to keep that momentum heading into tonight's matchup.

Unlike last night, the scoring got going early in this one.

Just three minutes in, Thomas Weis netted his fifth goal of the season as he buried a third opportunity shot after Lancers' goaltender Tommy Heaney made saves on shots from Joe Palodichuk and JP Turner. That gave the Force an early lead, but it only took the Lancers a little over two minutes to get that one back.

Vincent Salice carried the puck into the attacking zone and dropped a pass for Connor Welsh. Welsh ripped a wrist shot on net that trickled through Fargo netminder, Matej Marinov which allowed Jared Wright to hammer home the loose puck. Locking the game at 1-1 just over five minutes in.

Just like Omaha, Fargo got that one back in extremely quick fashion, as just 13 seconds later, Turner netted his 12th goal of the year off a rebound that beat Heaney short side to regain the 2-1 head that they took into the first intermission.

The Force still dominated in the shot count as they lead 23-12 through 20 minutes.

It only took the Force 16 seconds to add to their lead in the second period was a shot from Erik Bargholtz beat Heaney under the blocker arm and rolled its way into the back of the net, making it a 3-1 game early in the period.

A half period later, Thomas Sinclair found Tyler Rollwagen in the attacking zone who sent a shot towards the top of the goal crease.

Jakob Stender crashed the net and was able to tip the puck through Heaney's legs off his shin guard to make it a 4-1 game with 8:31 left in the second.

The Lancers had a few chances late in the period to pull within two, but Marinov had an answer for everything and the Lancers headed to the locker room down three.

Fargo added three goals to their lead in the final period as Andre Gasseau netted a beautiful shot over the short side shoulder of Heaney to take a 5-1 lead 8:57 into the third period.

That was followed up just a minute and a half later as Thomas Sinclair netted a goal after the puck was knocked off the post and spun on end, on the goal line. The play was called no goal originally, but after review, the goal was called good as the puck just barely crossed the line fully before Ethan Elias could clear it away, advancing Fargo's lead to 6-1.

The final goal of the game was scored by Cole Knuble on a one-timer, off a pass from Mason Langenbrunner, beating Heaney top shelf, over the blocker, giving the Force the 7-1 lead they closed the game out with.

The Lancers will be back in action Thursday, April 7th as they host the Des Moines Buccaneers back at Liberty First Credit Union Arena. Puck is set to drop at 7:05PM CST, and that game can be caught on HockeyTV and Mixlr.
