Stars Lose 5-1 to Musketeers

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars (33-17-2-3) were beaten 5-1 on Saturday night against the Sioux City Musketeers (35-14-4-1) at the Ice Box.

Ben Steeves scored the lone goal in the first period, blasting a slap shot over the left shoulder of Kaidan Mbereko on a Sioux City power play.

Lincoln hit a couple of posts in the first period, but couldn't capitalize. The Stars outshot Sioux City 11-9 in the opening twenty, but trailed 1-0.

Steeves added his second goal of the game 23 seconds into the period, striking again on the man advantage. The Stars were down 2-0 after 40 minutes, searching for answers.

Dylan James short a shorthanded goal 4:03 into the third period for his fifth goal of the series against Lincoln this weekend. Tabor Heaslip's empty-net goal made it 4-0 Sioux City with under four minutes left.

Doug Grimes was able to break Tracy's shutout bid 16:59 into the third period, scoring his seventh goal of the season. Antonio Fernandez picked up the primary assist.

Garrett Brown scored another empty-netter for the Musketeers, sealing their eighth straight win. Lincoln is now six points behind Sioux City for the second spot in the Western Conference but remains seven ahead of the Omaha Lancers.

Lincoln's power play was 0-for-6 and their penalty kill allowed two goals on five opportunities. Lucas Wahlin was suspended for Saturday's game but is eligible to return in Lincoln's next game.

The Stars will wrap up their three-game weekend on Sunday afternoon against the Tri-City Storm. Puck drop at the Ice Box is set for 3:05 p.m. It's Undie Sunday, so bring your pre-packaged, new underwear to toss onto the ice after Lincoln scores their first goal! All pairs of underwear will be donated to kids in need at Foster Care Closet!
