
Storm Set to Host Buccaneers at Viaero Center

KEARNEY, NE. - The Tri-City Storm is set to host the Des Moines Buccaneers tonight at the Viaero Center for a Saturday night showdown between Western Conference opponents. Tickets to tonight's battle are still available, and may be purchased online at www.StormHockey.com, or by calling the Viaero Center Box Office at 308-338-8144.
Tri-City (17-13-3-4) fell to 4-5-3-1 when tied after the 1st period, and 2-13-0-2 when trailing after the 2nd period in last night's three-goal loss on home ice to Des Moines. Luke Posthumus (2), and Dallas Vieau (7) scored the Storm's goals during the contest. The Storm outshot the Buccaneers by a final margin of 30-20, and dropped to 10-7-0-2 when outshooting its opponents this season. Tri-City now holds a record of 6-5-0-0 in three-goal games, and is 10-5-0-2 in games played at the Viaero Center this season. Tonight's home game against the Buccaneers will be the final battle between the two teams in Kearney this season. Tri-City will travel to Buccaneer Arena for one additional matchup in the series on Friday, March 22nd, 2024. The Storm now holds a 12-9-2-1 record in head-to-head games played against the Buccaneers over the last five seasons, including a 5-5-2-1 record in games played in the series at the Viaero Center. Scoring leaders for the Storm entering tonight's home game include Trevor Connelly (15), Ryan Smith (14), Cam Briere (12), August Falloon (11), Owen Beckner (10), Jake Rozzi (8), and Artemi Nizameyev (8). Tri-City will host the Omaha Lancers tomorrow for the organization's annual Scout Night Game, and the final game of the team's three-game weekend on home ice. The Storm will wear specialty sweaters for tomorrow's rivalry showdown against the Lancers.
Des Moines (14-20-4-0) improved to 7-12-1-0 in road games this season in last night's 5-2 win over Tri-City at the Viaero Center. The Buccaneers are now 4-7-1-0 when tied after the 1st period, and 7-2-2-0 when leading after the 2nd period this season following Friday's result against the Storm. Des Moines improved to 5-8-0-0 in three-goal games, and 8-6-4-0 when scoring the first goal of the game this season. The Buccaneers' win over the Storm in last night's game gave the team its third road victory of the last ten games. Des Moines enters tonight's game in 7th place in the USHL's Western Conference standings. Scoring leaders for the Buccaneers ahead of the team's final game of its two-game road weekend include Ben Kevan (18), Jack Kernan (13), Braedon Ford (10), Lubomir Kupco (9), Paul Minnehan (8), and Owen West (7). Des Moines' shorthanded goal scored in last night's 1st period was the first shorthanded goal netted by the team in thirty-eight games played to this point in the 2023-2024 regular season.
