Omaha Lancers News Release
SIOUX CITY, IA. - The Lancers returned to Tyson Events Center for the first time since New Year's Eve, where they had themselves a comeback, 4-3 overtime victory over the Musketeers.
Both teams were looking for a bounce-back game after falling in comeback losses last weekend. With Omaha losing 6-5 to Waterloo and the Musketeers losing 4-3 to Cedar Rapids.
The first period concluded with minimal shots on goal with Omaha leading 7-5. But at the point the Lancers scored the lone goal of the frame, it was just the fifth shot on goal between the two clubs.
Trey Scott was able to clear the defensive zone, allowing Jamison Sluys to take procession in the attacking end. And a nicely placed backdoor feed to Justin Stupka allowed the Lancers to take the 1-0 lead and handed #27 his seventh goal of the year.
Omaha played a physical, yet clean game through nearly 18 minutes until David Posma and Stupka collected a pair of penalties just 1:19 apart.
The Lancers penalty kill kept the Musketeers silent through the closing minutes, but still had a tall order to fill while down a man to start the second period.
It took just eight seconds into the second period for the Musketeers to net a power-play goal. Just seven seconds shy of Posma exiting the box to make it five-on-four, Brian Nicholas went bar-down on a shot from the slot to tie the game at one goal apiece.
That would be followed up 12 minutes later with another Musketeers goal by Alexi Van Houtte-Cachero who was able to beat Lancers' Goaltender, Lucas Szyszka by the left skate while on the rush. Handing Sioux City their first lead of the evening, making it 2-1.
Omaha did not waste time in getting that one back, as 17:57 into the period, Trey Scott scored his second of the season, handing him a multi-point night and four points in his last five periods of hockey.
Although the score was locked a two, the Lancers doubled the Musketeers in the shot count in the second period, 12-6 to lead in the grand total, 19-11.
Sioux City jumped out front for the first time all night at the 11:32 mark of the third period with a tip in from Colin Kessler to put the Musketeers up 3-2.
The one goal lead only lasted 90 seconds as Tate Pritchard sent a shot just inside for far post on Szyszka to take a demanding two-goal lead with just under seven minutes to play. Kessler gathered an assist on the goal to hand him a multi-point night.
The scoring was wrapped up with 54 seconds left as an empty net goal was credited to Kaden Shahan after being tripped up by David Posma on the way to the net.
The empty netter sealed a 5-2 win for Sioux City and handed Shahan his league-leading 26th goal of the season.
The Lancers hit the road once again Saturday, February 3rd for a 6:05PM CST. puck drop in Lincoln for the fifth matchup of the season with the Stars. That game can be streamed on FloSports and Mixlr.
