Madison Capitols News Release
For the second straight night, Madison found the first goal in the game, but early leads don't prevail for the Capitols. The Green Bay Gamblers take down the Capitols 5-2 on Saturday night.
Madison is now 1-4-0-0 against Green Bay on the season following the loss. The Capitols would have to win out to win the season long Wisconsin Cheese Cup presented by Klondike Cheese.
Goal scorers on Saturday for the Capitols were Jack Brandt (4) and Andrew Kuzma (16). Brandt picks up his third goal over the past four games to take an early lead for the Caps. Kuzma picked up his seventh goal over the past eight games for the forward to bring Madison within two in the third.
The Capitols are now on a three-game losing skid, tied for the second longest such streak of the season.
A pair of fights in the game take Madison's reign as the least penalized team in the league away as both the Capitols and Gamblers collected 40 minutes of infractions on Saturday night. Ethan Elias and Diego Johnson were the two fighters for Madison in the game collecting a total of 32 penalty minutes between the two.
With Green Bay, Muskegon, and Youngstown all winning on Saturday night, the Capitols sit eight points out of fourth place in the Eastern Conference. They still stand five points clear of Chicago in sixth place, six points clear of Cedar Rapids in seventh.
The Capitols will have a great opportunity to collect points against Muskegon tomorrow afternoon as a win could be a four-point swing for the Capitols who still have games in hand on all but Green Bay in front of them.
Puck drop for tomorrow's matinee is scheduled for 3:05 pm at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena. Following the game, it's the team's second Skate with The Capitols event of the season, which means it's your chance to meet the players. Tickets for tomorrow's game can be found at tickets.madcapshockey.com.
