Three Keys To The Game Presented By Nebraska Department Of Transportation

Key 1: Capitalize On The Power Play

- The Stars have scored six power-play goals over their last four games and have scored on 40-percent (6-for-15) of opportunities since Jan. 19. The three power-play goals last Sunday marked a single-game high for the 2023-24 season. Sunday also marked the first time that the Stars had scored three times on the man advantage since Apr. 8, 2023 against Omaha (3-for-7 in a 5-3 win; all three came in the third period). The Lancers lead the USHL with 824 penalty minutes and have committed 32 infractions for 121 minutes in their last four games. Lincoln has yet to score on the power play against Omaha this season but the Lancers' penalty kill is 11th out of 16 teams in the USHL.

Key 2: Break The Series Tie

- Tonight is fifth head-to-head matchup of nine regular season meetings between the Stars and the Lancers. Omaha took the first two games on Nov. 18 and Nov. 25 where they outscored the Stars, 5-1, in Ralston, but Lincoln got things turned around and tied the series by taking a pair of one-goal victories on Dec. 29 and Dec. 30. Under head coach Rocky Russo the Stars are 17-6-0-1 versus the Lancers and gone 9-2 at the Ice Box.

Key 3: Keep Shooting

- The Lincoln Stars recorded 35 and 40 shots on goal in their weekend series versus the Muskegon Lumberjacks. The Stars' 31.28 shots per game are fourth-most in the USHL and they have recorded 40-or-more shots five times in the 2023-24 season. Omaha sits second-to-last in shots per game at 25.11 this season despite outshooting Sioux City, 28-22, last night. The Stars are 5-2 at the Ice Box when outshooting their opponent and are 3-11-0-2 overall when being outshot. Omaha has only outshot their opponents seven times this season and won two of those games.
