Toledo Walleye News Release
(Toledo, Ohio) The Toledo Storm (19-17-1) completed a flawless weekend, as
they shutout the Johnstown Chiefs (15-18-4) by a 3-0 score in front of 3,124
at Toledo Sports Arena on Sunday afternoon. The box score from tonight's
game can be accessed by clicking Toledo vs. Johnstown
After a scoreless first period, the Storm were able to draw first blood at
13:37 when Jamie Tardif knocked home a loose rebound beating Chiefs
netminder Morgan Cey (L, 15 saves). Ken Magowan and Jeff Attard added
assists on the power play goal, which extends the Storm's power play goal
streak to three games. Toledo has netted power play markers in four of
their last five games. Just 24 seconds later, Toledo added to their lead as
Bruce Mulherin sniped a wrist shot over Cey's right shoulder to put the
Storm up 2-0. Following the second goal, Johnstown coach Frank Anzalone
opted to replace Cey with recently acquired back-up goalie Ryan Munce (20
saves). With a 2-0 lead in the third, the Storm continued their dominance of the
Chiefs as Chris Blight made it 3-0 at 17:08 when he carried the puck from
end-to-end and depositing a shot between the legs of Munce. With the tally,
Blight has scored a goal in three consecutive games. Mike Brodeur excelled
again; turning aside 24 saves to earn his second shutout of the weekend.
Toledo had just one shutout prior to the weekend (10/21/06 2-0 vs. Dayton).
Brodeur has 3 shutouts in 7 ECHL starts this season. The Storm will play 7 of their next 8 games away from Toledo Sports Arena,
beginning next Friday night against the Dayton Bombers at 7:00pm from the
Nutter Center. Toledo will return to the home ice on January 31st when they
