Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ (January 21, 2007) - The Trenton Titans allowed three goals by the Reading Royals over a span of 4:18 during the second period in a 6-3 defeat at the Sovereign Bank Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The 3,482 in attendance saw the Titans take a 3-2 lead and a power play into the second stanza, but the Royals killed off that man-advantage and converted on a 5-on-4 chance of their own. An interception at the blueline for Jason Becker turned into a tip-in goal for Greg Hogeboom at 1:17 to tie the score.
Another Trenton turnover at the point 1:43 later resulted in the Reading's first lead of the game. Chris Bala picked off the pass and skated in alone to deposit his second of goal of the contest past Gregg Naumenko. Becker completed the flurry with a power play goal at 5:35 of the period to make the score 5-3. Reading's quick strike chased Naumenko from the game in favor of Joel Martin.
Scott Bertoli and Bala traded goals on the man-advantage early in the game before Mike Pandolfo put the Titans back up by one at 9:23 with his 14th power play goal of the season.
Once again the Royals tied the score when Shawn Collymore completed a 2-on-1 with Bala. Trenton, however, took its third lead of the game when Reading goalie Jeff Pietrasiak got tied up behind the net with Pandolfo and Jay Pemberton slapped home the first goal of his professional career at 16:23 of the opening period.
Trenton went 2-for-8 on the power play and 5-for-8 on the penalty kill.
