Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release

The Pensacola Ice Pilots gave up four power play goals in the first 40 minutes of the game and lost 6-3 to the Texas Wildcatters on Sunday afternoon at Ford Arena in Beaumont, Texas.

The Ice Pilots had a 4-1 deficit shaved to 4-3 early late in the second period on a great comeback, but the fourth Wildcatters power play goal proved to be the difference in the game.

In the opening period, the Ice Pilots collected the game's first goal when Mike Wirll picked up his 27th when he back-handed a shot behind Texas goaltender Miroslav Kopriva.

However, the Wildcatters rallied back to the next three including two on the power play to make it 3-1 after 20 minutes.

The Ice Pilots fell behind 4-1 as they surrendered another power play goal but rallied after that with two straight goals. David Wrigley fired a power play goal from Nikita Korovkin and Greg Watson. Later in the period it was Nate Metcalf from Dan Sullivan and John Hecimovic. The Wildcatters added a fourth power play goal of the game late in the second to restore a two goal lead and make it 5-3.

In the third period, Texas added one more goal to make it 6-3 and round out the scoring.

Texas goaltender Miroslav Kopriva won his fourth against the Ice Pilots this season, while Michael Mole took the loss.
