Alaska Aces News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - Joe Talbot went coast-to-coast and whipped a snap shot by Stockton goalie Devan Dubnyk at 1:24 of overtime to lift Alaska to a 3-2 victory before a capacity crowd of 9,737 Friday night at Stockton Arena.

Angry after wasting a 3-0 lead the night before, Stockton raced out to a quick start, dominating play in the offensive zone for much of the first 10 minutes and gaining the upper hand at 4:29 on a goal by Stephane Goulet. But Alaska slowly regrouped, and tied the game when Olivier Filion blasted a one-timer from the right circle past Dubnyk with 5:41 left in the opening period.

Stockton scored the only goal of the second period, which came after Tim Sestito followed his own rebound and rifled a wrist shot from between the circles by Aces starter Derek Gustafson at 14:05. Trailing 2-1, Alaska again tied the game with 8:56 left to play on a wrist shot from the top of the right circle by Kevin Croxton, who has scored in three straight games and ranks second on the team with 15 goals on the year.

The Aces fought off two Thunder power plays late in regulation (and killed all eight for the game) before claiming victory on the only shot taken in overtime. Matt Shasby assisted on all three goals for Alaska, still owners of the best record in the ECHL at 25-10-2. Gustafson finished with 25 saves while improving to 11-1-1 over his last 13 starts.

The Aces and Thunder play at Stockton Arena again tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. AST before what amounts to a five-game series between the two clubs shifts to Sullivan Arena in Anchorage next Wednesday. Tickets for next week's series, which continues next Friday and Saturday at 7:15 p.m. are now available by calling 258-ACES or at www.alaskaaces.com.
