Toledo Walleye News Release
(Toledo, Ohio) The Toledo Storm won the team's third game in as many tries at the Toledo Sports Arena, 4-1 over the divisional rival Dayton Bombers, this evening. The Storm is now 3-0-1 on the season and remains in first place in the Northwest Division.
The Storm struck first while on the power play-as they have in all three home games thusfar-when Grady Moore fired a low wrist shot from the high slot that snuck behind Dayton goaltender, Andrew Allen, at 9:07 of the first. Toledo took a two goal lead when Nick Parillo stole a clearing attempt by a Dayton defender and found Erik Anderson breaking to the net on the right wing side. Anderson forced a backhander through Allen for his first of what would be two goals-and for what proved to be the game winner-at 15:27 of the first. In the second period, Mike Bayrack battled for a loose puck, after Allen had made a toe stop on a Wes Mason snap shot from the high slot. Bayrack was able to slip the rebound into the goal to make it 3-0 Toledo at 12:25 of the second. In the third, Dayton got on the board with a power play goal when Jonathan Gauthier ripped a blast from the high slot that somehow made it through thick traffic in front of the net and then popped out of the glove of Toledo goaltender, Doug Teskey, and into the net at 1:43 of the third. The Storm re-gained the three goal lead with the team' s second power play of the night-which was scored under somewhat unusual circumstances. After Dayton won a defensive zone faceoff, a Bomber defender sought to fire the puck around his goal; but the Storm's Erik Anderson got his stick in front of the clearing attempt, and the puck somehow rocketed into the net to give the Storm a 4-1 lead.
The number one star of the game was Storm goaltender, Doug Teskey, who came into the game at 16:24 of the first period when Brian Finley went out as a precautionary measure with what appeared to be a sore groin. To that point, Finley stopped all twelve shots that he faced. Teskey immediately faced a barrage of shots from the Bombers, but was to the task-and ended up stopping 23 of the 24 shots he saw over the final 43:36.
