Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Grizzlies won their first game of the young season, 5-3, on Saturday night over the San Antonio Rampage in front of 5,127 fans.
The Grizzlies started the scoring on a power play goal by Jon Sim (his sixth point in his last two games). Utah would add to their lead when Matthieu Descoteaux scored his first goal as a Grizzly giving Utah a 2-0 lead after one period of play.
San Antonio caught up with the only second period goal, scored by Jeff Toms and an early third period goal by Ryan Jardine. With the score tied at two, Gavin Morgan blasted a laser past San Antonio goaltender Wade Flaherty regaining the lead for the Grizzlies. The Rampage would quickly take the momentum back as Pierre Dagenais tallied his first goal of the night just over a minute later pulling the Rampage even at three goals apiece. The game-winner would come off the stick of Marc-Andre Thinel, his first goal of the season in his first game as a Grizzly. The icing on the cake would come from Thinel's teammate from Quebec last season Eric Landry who took a pass from Steve Ott and directed it past Flaherty.
Jason Bacashihua had a spectacular night in goal gaining his first victory as a member of the Grizzlies making 35 saves. The Rampage outshot the Grizzlies 38-34 in the game.
Three Stars: 1. Jason Bacashihua (Grizzlies) 34 saves 2. Jon Sim (Grizzlies) one goal, one assist 3. Gavin Morgan (Grizzlies) one goal, one assist
Next Game: The Grizzlies will square off against the defending Calder Cup champion Chicago Wolves on Wednesday night with face-off scheduled for 7:00 pm.
