Storm Fall 5-2 to Des Moines

Urbandale, IA - The Tri-City Storm dropped a road game Friday night to the Des Moines Buccaneers by a final score of 5-2. The Storm got goals in the game from Connor McMenamin and Keaton Pehrson. Tri-City fell to 8-2-1 on the season, and 2-2 against the Buccaneers. The Storm return home on Tuesday night for a rivalry matchup with Omaha.

Des Moines netted three goals in less than three minutes halfway through the first period to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Rylee St. Onge scored his 2nd goal of the season at 11:44 to put the Buccaneers on the board. Reed Lebster scored his 5th goal of the season minutes later at the 13:08 mark of the period. Matt Brown netted his league leading 12th goal of the year at the 14:42 mark of the 1st period to increase the Des Moines lead to three goals. Shots were 8-8 after the opening period.

Tri-City found its first goal of the night midway through the 2nd period to cut the Des Moines lead to 3-1. The goal was scored on the power play at 10:59 of the 2nd period by Connor McMenamin. The goal was McMenamin's 3rd of the season and was assisted by Elias Rosen and Keaton Pehrson. Just minutes later, Des Moines answered back on the power play to go up by three goals again. The goal was scored by Reed Lebster and was his 2nd of the game. Tri-City outshot Des Moines 13-8 in the 2nd period, but trailed 4-1 entering the 3rd.

In the 3rd period, Tri-City scored the opening minutes to cut the lead down to two goals again. Keaton Pehrson netted his 1st goal of the season at 3:40 of the 3rd period, with Elias Rosen picking up his 2nd assist of the game. The Storm heavily outshot the Buccaneers by a 22-7 margin in the 3rd period, but gave up an empty net goal late in the game to fall by a final score of 5-2. Tri-City outshot Des Moines 43-23.

Isaiah Saville recorded the loss in goal for Tri-City, making 18 saves on 22 shots. The Storm power play finished the night 1 for 4. The loss was only the second regulation loss of the season in eleven games for Tri-City.
