Sioux City Musketeers News Release
SIOUX CITY, IA - The Musketeers were back at home on Saturday night for a showdown against the Omaha Lancers and after a big bounce-back win on Friday, the Musketeers kept the momentum rolling thanks to a hat-trick from Bobby Brink.
Despite the final score, the 1st period was all Lancers. Tyler Carpenter got Omaha on the board just 3:10 into the game to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead. Omaha would continue to control much of the play in the 1st and extended their lead on the powerplay at the 18:46 mark thanks to a goal from Bryce Brodzinski.
Sioux City was not happy with their play in the 1st period, and as a result, they came out fast in the 2nd period and took control. While they controlled the majority of the period it would take until the last five minutes of the frame. Brink's first goal of the night was a beauty. He came into the offensive zone with time and space and picked a corner the net and fired it home to bring the Musketeers within one at the 15:11. Luke Johnson and Martin Pospisil had the assists on the play.
Just over two minutes later it would be Brink again, jamming one home on the powerplay to tie the game at two. Parker Ford and Brock Baker had the assists on the play. Sioux City would head into the locker room with big-time momentum, and thankfully they didn't let it go to waste.
Brink scored his third, and game-winning, goal of the night just 2:37 into the period and it proved to be enough to secure the victory. Final score 3-2.
Ben Kraws was steady as ever in net, stopping 17 of 19 Omaha attempts while Akira Schmid saved 22 of 25 for the Lancers.
After tonight's game, the top two scorers in the USHL are Sioux City Musketeers. Martin Pospisil leads the league with 25 points while Brink trails closely behind with 22 points.
The Musketeers will look to continue their winning ways next week against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on Friday night. Don't forget 12oz domestic beers are only ONE dollar. Puck drop set for 7:05 pm don't be late!
