Lancers Defeat Stars in OT, 5-4

LINCOLN, NE - The Omaha Lancers defeated the Lincoln Stars in overtime on Friday night at the Ice Box by a final score of 5-4.

The Stars struck first on their first powerplay opportunity. Mason Klee (7:58) took a slapshot from the blueline off of the draw to score on Brian George. Later in the period, Brendan Furry (11:53) scored his first goal of the year. Furry took a pass of off the glass from Grant Anderson into the Stars zone to score on a breakaway. The game stayed tied 1-1 into the first intermission.

In the second period, the Stars broke ahead by two back-to-back goals taking a 3-1 lead. Brendan Furry (15:44) got the Lancers within one point blowing past the Stars defense to score backhand on the five-hole of Mucitelli. The Lancers trailed 3-2 heading into the second intermission.

In the third period, the Lancers tied up the game when Cam Berg (5:39) scored the first goal of his USHL career. Minutes later, Josiah Slavin (7:05) regained the 4-3 lead for the Stars on the power play. The Lancers cashed in on another powerplay opportunity when Ryan Savage (8:35) scored his second goal of the season to tie the game 4-4. The game remained tied 4-4 and resulted in an overtime period.

In the extra frame, Jerry Harding drove towards the left side of Mucitelli's net to slide the puck between his legs to score and solidify a 5-4 OT win for the Lancers. Brian George stopped 40 of the 44 Stars shots that he faced.

The Lancers improve to 4-5-0-1 with 9 points and currently sit at seventh place in the USHL Western Conference.

The Lancers return to the ice tomorrow to face off against the Sioux City Musketeers at the Tyson Events Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm and all of the action can be seen and heard on KOIL Newstalk 1290 and seen on HockeyTV.
