June 18, 2022 - International League (IL)
Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (29-35) dropped game five of the series the Omaha Storm Chasers (31-32) by a score of 9-3, Saturday at Principal Park.

Vinnie Pasquantino started the scoring for Omaha in the first inning, driving in his 60th run of the year on an RBI single. The Storm Chasers added to their lead with a sacrifice fly from Michael Massey followed by a three-run home run off the bat of Cam Gallagher.

In his second major league rehab game with Iowa, David Bote got Iowa on the board with an RBI single in the fourth, cutting their deficit to 5-1. Unfortunately for Iowa, that deficit extended to six in the fifth, when Gallagher clubbed an RBI double followed by an RBI single from Brewer Hicklen.

Trailing 7-1, the I-Cubs answered with two runs of their own, as Jared Young hit his team-leading 11th home run of the year, a two-run shot to bring it back to a four-run game. That was all the damage Iowa would do against major league rehabber Zack Greinke, who spun seven innings of three-run ball.

In his second rehab start with Omaha, the righty allowed just six hits and one walk, while striking out four. He earned his second win in as many starts for the Storm Chasers. Hicklen would pad Omaha's lead again with an RBI double in the seventh, followed by a solo home run from Ivan Castillo in the ninth.

Up 9-3, Collin Snider entered for Omaha and despite loading the bases, got out of the inning without allowing a run, closing out the victory for Storm Chasers.

POSTGAME NOTES:

- Robert Gsellman got tagged for five earned runs over three innings pitched to bring his ERA to 5.64 and hand him his third loss of the season.

- Dixon Machado went 0-for-4 at the top of the lineup, snapping his 30-game on base streak. Dating back to May 12, Machado was hitting .304 (34-for-112) with 14 runs scored, five doubles, a home run and 12 runs batted in entering tonight's game. Over the 30-game stretch, the shortstop took 18 walks compared to just 14 strikeouts.

- In his second major league rehab game with Iowa, David Bote went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Last night, the infielder went 1-for-2 with a two-RBI double.

- Jared Young went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a home run, two runs driven in and a walk tonight. His long ball gave him 11 on the year, good for the team-lead.

Iowa and Omaha will finish their six-game series with the finale tomorrow afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 1:08 pm at Principal Park. For more information and tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
