Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- Third baseman Laz Rivera homered for the second consecutive day, but the Charlotte Knights dropped game five of the six-game series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp by a score of 5-3 on Saturday night in front of 9,538 fans at Truist Field.
Rivera hit his fifth home run of the season in Friday's game and followed up that effort with a solo shot in the seventh inning of Saturday's game. Rivera went 2-for-3 with the home run and two RBIs on Saturday. The home run was his sixth of the season.
Charlotte first baseman Gavin Sheets also continued his hot hitting. Sheets gave the Knights a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with his second home run of the season. Sheets finished the game with two hits and two runs scored on the night. In all, the Knights recorded eight hits in the game.
RHP Yacksel Ríos started for the Knights and allowed just one walk over a scoreless inning. LHP Yoan Aybar (0-2, 6.14) pitched in relief and allowed a costly three-run home run in the fifth inning of the game. The home run by catcher Lorenzo Quintana led the Jumbo Shrimp to a fourth win in five games over the Knights.
The Knights will conclude the six-game-series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins) from Truist Field on Sunday with a 5:05 p.m. game on Father's Day. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action on 730 The Game and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
