Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Lorenzo Quintana launched a three-run home run in the fifth as the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp went on to win 5-3 over the Charlotte Knights Saturday night at Truist Field.
Trailing 2-1 in the fifth inning, Jacksonville (36-29) took the lead and never looked back. With one out, Peyton Burdick walked and went to third on a single from Brian Miller. With runners at the corners, Quintana (11) blasted a three-run home run off Knights reliever Yoan Aybar (L, 0-2) to take a 4-2 lead.
The Jumbo Shrimp added one more run in the top of the seventh. With one out, Quintana walked and scored on a double from JJ Bleday to give Jacksonville a 5-2 advantage.
Charlotte (24-41) got a run back in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Laz Rivera (6) launched a solo home run to cut the deficit to 5-3.
The Knights tried to rally in the ninth but fell short. With two outs and a man on, Rivera and Zach Remillard walked to load the bases before Jacksonville reliever Robert Garcia (S, 5) induced a fly out by Mark Payton to end the game and seal the series win for the Jumbo Shrimp.
Charlotte drew first blood with a run in the bottom of the second. Gavin Sheets doubled and four batters later scored on a single from Rivera to put the Knights ahead 1-0.
The Jumbo Shrimp tied the game in the top of the fourth. Quintana singled and Bleday followed with a walk. Charles Leblanc flew out, allowing Quintana to advance to third and then he scored on an infield single by Erik González to tie the game at one.
The Knights took their last lead in the bottom of the fourth. Sheets (2) started the inning with a solo home run to give Charlotte a 2-1 advantage.
Jacksonville wraps up their series with Charlotte Sunday at 5:05 p.m. Coverage begins at 4:50 p.m. on ESPN 690 and espn690.com.
