Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
MOOSIC, PA -The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders shut out the Rochester Red Wings 3-0 on Saturday evening. Matt Krook pitched seven shutout innings in the longest outing by any RailRiders' pitcher this season.
The RailRiders broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single from Jake Bauers against Red Wings' starter Carson Teel. Tim Locastro had a one-out double and came home on the run-scoring hit by Bauers. Teel allowed one run over four innings with seven strikeouts in his second start of the season. The seven punchouts tied a career-high.
Meanwhile, RailRiders' starter Matt Krook struck out five batters during his night of work. Seven innings tied the longest outing of Krook's career and was the first time a Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starting pitcher had gone at least seven frames this year. He has now gone seven innings three times in his Minor League career.
SWB added two insurance runs in the ninth. Ronald Guzmán doubled to lead off the inning, then stole his first base of the season and came home on a wild pitch. Estevan Florial extended his team-high hitting streak to eleven games with a single later in the frame, swiped his club-leading 22nd bag of the campaign and also scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0. Florial's eleven-game hit streak matches a career-best, something he set with Low-A Charleston in 2017.
Jimmy Cordero and Greg Weissert finished off the shutout with two scoreless innings out of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre bullpen. Krook (2-6) earned his second win for the RailRiders. Weissert (6) logged his sixth save. Teel (2-1) suffered the loss for Rochester.
The two teams conclude their six-game series on Sunday afternoon with first pitch at 1:05 PM. It's Sunday Family FunDay. Kids can play catch on the field from noon to 12:20 PM, get $2 Dippin Dots and Mamita's Ices all game long and can run the bases after the game, presented by Geisinger and Q92. Tickets are available at swbrailriders.com.
