Tri-City Storm News Release
Lincoln, Ne. - Jake Kielly pitched a 35-save shutout, Alex Limoges tied a season high with three points and the Tri-City Storm exploded for three goals in the second to crush the Lincoln Stars, 4-0, Saturday at the Ice Box.
Joe Cipollone, Wade Allison and Alex Limoges all scored in the middle frame, knocking Stars goalie Patrik Virtanen from the game.
While the offense revved to help the Storm win its third straight against the Stars, Kielly denied 13 shots in the third period to savor his second shutout of the campaign.
The offensive onslaught began in the first, when Alex Limoges scored his first of two goals in the late stages of a high-shooting frame. With 1:18 remaining, Limoges stashed a shot net front for his second marker of the campaign. Joey Matthews earned the assist, taking the initial point shot that was stopped by Virtanen but trickled to Limoges.
The Storm had 13 of the 27 shots on net in the first and ended the opening frame leading, 1-0.
Tri-City's momentum carried into the second, spurred by goals 1:02 apart. First, at 7:01 of the second, Cipollone scored from the right slot off a feed from Walker Duehr for the winger's fourth of the season.
Next, at 8:03 of the second, Wade Allison received a stretch pass through the neutral zone, carried to the left circle and backhanded a shot far post past Virtanen. Allison is second on the squad with 11 goals and has eight tallies and nine points in his last nine contests. Limoges picked up the only assist.
The third goal knocked Virtanen from the game after making 19 saves, the first time this season Lincoln has pulled its netminder. Peyton Jones stepped in, but could not stop the Storm's high-scoring frame.
Limoges' second goal, at 14:28 of the second, was arguably his most-artful strike, whipping around and careening the puck from the air into the back of the net after the first try by Dan Labosky hit the inside of the right post. Labosky and Dello received the helpers.
Carson Meyer helped set the tone for the second with a fight against Ludvig Hoff, the Stars leading scorer, at 4:28 of the second. Each players received five minutes for fighting and a ten-minute misconduct.
The Storm finished 2-for-4 on the man up. Tri-City's penalty kill was 6-for-6, giving the Storm 16 straight kills over the last four games.
Tri-City's next home game is Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016 at 5:05 p.m. against the Des Moines Buccaneers on Princess Night, featuring Frozen characters making their way to the Viaero Center. Groups of 10+ can get discounted group tickets for as low as $11. For more information contact the Storm Box Office at 308-338-8144.
