Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
James Gobetz got the Buccaneers on the scoreboard just 13 seconds into their first power play chance of the evening when Ty Pelton-Byce won the faceoff to Chris Allemon at left defense and he swung it to Gobetz who was squared to the goalie Kris Oldham; Gobetz's blast through traffic found the back of the net and gave the Buccaneers a 1-0 lead. The lead would double when Kenny Hausinger was fed in the neutral zone and he went in on a 2 on 1 with Justin Howell but took the shot himself and buried it at 10:43 of the first period. Nick MacNab made 11 saves to keep the home team off the scoreboard through the first twenty minutes.
Omaha outshot the Buccaneers by a 13-4 margin in the second period and it was a power play chance that gave them their first goal of the game thanks to Nathan Krusko at 13:36. However the Buccaneers countered late with a power play goal when a fast break allowed Georgy Gorodetsky feed a pass to Kenny Hausinger who was in all alone on Oldham and beat the goalie at 18:16 of the second to take a 3-1 lead into the locker room.
In the third period the Lancers quickly cut the lead to one when Austin Alger scored just 3:18 into the period making it a 3-2 game. Goalie Nick MacNab stopped a lot of quality chances throughout the third to tie the game up and then Kenny Hausinger picked up an empty net goal for his hat trick. Hausinger's last goal ended up being the game winner as a late penalty allowed the Lancers a chance to score a power play goal from Josh French with 13.8 seconds left but the Buccaneers took the puck off the faceoff and played it into the Lancers' zone where it stayed for the remainder of the game.
The win moved the Buccaneers' record up to 12-14-2 and goalie Nick MacNab made 23 saves in the win. Up next for Des Moines is a road trip to take on the Tri-City Storm on Sunday, January 3rd. Puck drop from Viaero Events Center in Kearney, Nebraska is 5:05 PM with pre-game starting at 4:45 on 1700 KBGG.
