Madison Capitols News Release

Bloomington, IL - The Madison Capitols (11-14-1-2), winners of three of their last four games, will march into Bloomington for a matchup with the Thunder (15-9-2-1), a squad that just saw its seven-game win streak snapped on Wednesday in Cedar Rapids. Puck drop from the U.S. Cellular Coliseum is set for 7 p.m.

The Thunder have leaped all the way up into the fourth place position in the Eastern Conference by virtue of winning seven straight games from Nov. 27 through Dec. 29. Only once during their winning streak did the Thunder allow more than two goals in a game.

The Capitols will look for their first ever victory at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum, where the Thunder won each of the two meetings in 2014-15. The Capitols have won three of their last four games, including a pair of road games at the Resch Center against the Green Bay Gamblers.

Sam McCormick has been arguably the hottest forward in the entire USHL in the last four games, as the De Pere, Wis. native and Ohio State commit has registered a trio of three-point games, scoring five goals and adding four assists in that time frame. He tallied another two-goal game against his hometown team in the Capitols' 6-3 New Year's Eve win over Green Bay.

In net the Capitols' saw 16-year-old Finnish native Daniel Lebedeff pick up his first USHL win in his first start, as the goalie made 28 saves to preserve the win. He became the first Madison goaltender to win in his first USHL appearance.

The Capitols will look to get some retribution on Bloomington from Oct. 24, when the Thunder invaded the Alliant Energy Center and walked out with a 2-1 win on a night that saw them outshoot the Capitols 41-25. Hayden Lavigne improved his career mark to 2-0-0 all time against the Capitols with 24 saves in the victory.

Following Saturday's matchup, the two newest USHL franchises will not meet again until March 26 at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

The Capitols return home to start a seven-game homestand on Jan. 8 at 7:05 p.m. against the Sioux City Musketeers for New Year's Resolution/Fitness night! Local gyms and health clubs will be on hand to help fans spring into the New Year on the right foot! Tickets for all Capitols home games are available by calling (608) 257-CAPS (2277) or by visiting www.MadCapsHockey.com.

The following night, Saturday, Jan. 9 at 7:05 p.m., the Capitols will host the Youngstown Phantoms on "Be The Miracle" night. Madison will wear specialty "Miracle on Ice" inspired jerseys on a night where the Capitols will honor the late Bob Suter and recognize local miracle workers around Madison.

In Suter's memory, the night will be "all about the kids", as children 12-and-under can receive a free ticket to the game with the purchase of an adult ticket at the promotional cost of $10-$12. The offer is good through 1 p.m. on Jan. 9.
