Tri-City Storm News Release
Kearney, NE. - The Tri-City Storm has announced changes to its Hockey Operations department that will take effect immediately, and that will strengthen the organization's ability to continue to develop elite hockey players. The Tri-City Storm is pleased to announce that Jason Koehler has been promoted to General Manager, and Anthony Noreen has been promoted to President of Hockey Operations/Head Coach. Koehler, who signed a multiyear contract with the Storm, becomes the ninth General Manager in the organization's twenty-year history. Koehler will supervise the hockey operations department, including all matters relating to player personnel, coaching staff, and scouting department.
Jason Koehler was hired by the team on August 28th after spending the past ten seasons with the Youngstown Phantoms. Koehler served as the Phantoms' General Manager from July 2015 to May 2019 and was on staff in Youngstown for the teams' Tier I record 17 game winning streak and Anderson Cup Championship during the 2014-2015 season. He was the first USHL Executive to have two 1st Round NHL draft picks in the same NHL Draft (2005). Koehler has had over 300 NCAA D1 commitments and more than 40 NHL Draft picks in his management career.
Anthony Noreen was hired by the team on May 26th, 2017 and is currently in his third season with the organization. Under Noreen's leadership, Tri-City has reached the Clark Cup Playoffs in each of the past two seasons and has produced seven NHL Draft picks. Last season, Noreen led the Storm to 45-12-3-2 record in the regular season and its second Anderson Cup Championship in organization history. Through his first 139 regular season games with the organization, Noreen has a record of 81-46-7-5.
Koehler and Noreen worked together for five seasons in the Youngstown Phantoms organization (2010-2015). During that time, Youngstown won its first and only Anderson Cup Championship. Noreen was named the USHL's Coach of the Year following Youngstown's historic 2014-2015 season. Koehler previously served as the USHL's GM Committee Chair from 2017-2019.
"We are please to have Jason Koehler assume the role as our next General Manager. His previous experience as a GM in the USHL and his long-term relationship with Anthony will make this transition seamless. Locking Jason to a multiyear deal was priority number one, and it puts the Storm in a great position for many years." President of Business Operations Mark Jalcovik
The Tri-City Storm thanks Steve Lowe, who has moved on to take a position closer to home, for his time and contributions to the success of the organization.
