Storm announce 2006 regular season schedule

SEATTLE - The Seattle Storm today announced its 34-game schedule for the 2006 WNBA regular season, the franchise's seventh year in the league. Highlights of the 2006 Storm schedule, which begins in May, include 12 weekend games against the best in the WNBA such as the Los Angeles Sparks, the Connecticut Sun, the Indiana Fever and the Detroit Shock.

The Storm will open their 2006 season against Western Conference rival Los Angeles at KeyArena on Sunday, May 21 at 6 p.m. The following Tuesday, May 23, Seattle will host the Houston Comets at 8 p.m. on ESPN2.

The defending Eastern Conference Champion Connecticut Sun will return to KeyArena on Sunday, July 16.

"Storm fans are very excited about two great WNBA matchups for opening weekend with our Western Conference rivals Los Angeles and Houston," Storm Chief Operating Officer Karen Bryant said. "We look forward to getting back into KeyArena with Storm fans to tip off our seventh WNBA season."

Four of the Storm's 34 games will be broadcast nationally, including a matchup at Phoenix on Tuesday, July 25 on ESPN2. The Storm's 2006 WNBA regular season will close Saturday, Aug. 12 at Houston on ABC.

Other marquee games in 2006 at KeyArena include the Storm's matchups with the 2005 WNBA Champion Sacramento Monarchs on Tuesday, June 27 and Tuesday, July 18. The 2003 WNBA Champion Detroit Shock will return to KeyArena on Friday, July 28.

The Seattle Sonics & Storm manages the Puget Sound region's professional basketball franchises - the NBA's Seattle SuperSonics and the WNBA's Seattle Storm. The organization oversees all sales, marketing, finance, public relations and basketball operations for the teams. The Basketball Club of Seattle LLC owns both teams.
