
Sting Announce 2006 Schedule

December 21, 2005 - The Charlotte Sting will open their 10th anniversary season on Saturday, May 20, against the league's newest team, the Chicago Sky, it was announced by the WNBA today. The Sting will play all 17 of their home games in the new Charlotte Bobcats Arena in Uptown Charlotte.
This marks the sixth consecutive year the Sting will open the season in the Queen City. Charlotte will play its first four games of the 2006 season at Charlotte Bobcats Arena, making it the longest homestand of the season. Following opening night against Chicago, the Sting will host Lisa Leslie and the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday, May 23, Alana Beard and the Washington Mystics on Thursday, May 25, and the Eastern Conference Champion Connecticut Sun on Thursday, June 1.
"We are looking forward to getting the 2006 season started with a young and exciting team on the court," said Sting Head Coach Muggsy Bogues. "With four games at home to start the season, we look forward to having the fans come out and support the team in the new arena from the beginning of the season through the end."
The team plays its first road game on Saturday, June 3, at Connecticut and will embark on two season-long four-game road trips over the course of the campaign. The first of these four-game road trips takes place from June 23 to 29 with stops in Houston, Detroit, New York and Chicago. The second four-game road swing occurs late in the season, from July 30 to August 5, with the Sting visiting Washington, San Antonio, Phoenix and Seattle.
Other schedule highlights include home contests against the 2005 WNBA Champion Sacramento Monarchs on Saturday, July 1, a meeting with Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury on Saturday, July 22, and a matchup with Dawn Staley and the Houston Comets on Tuesday, August 8. The Sting will also host two "camp day" matinee games, the first on Thursday, June 22, against Eastern Conference rival Detroit and the second on Thursday, July 20, against Sue Bird, Lauren Jackson and the Seattle Storm. Both camp day games tip off at 11:30 a.m.
All remaining Sting weekday home games will tip off at 7:00 p.m. while Saturday contests will begin at 6:00 p.m. The Sting will play one nationally-televised game at Washington on Tuesday, June 13, at 7:00 p.m on ESPN 2. All 34 of Charlotte's games will be broadcast on the radio home of the Charlotte Sting, WNMX 106.1 FM.
